Discovering Coronado Springs Resort: A Guide to a Disney Gem

Today, we’re deep diving into a Disney property that offers a unique blend of charm, amenities, and value: Coronado Springs Resort.

Hey fellow Disney lovers! 🌟 If you’re planning your next trip to the Happiest Place on Earth, you might be wondering where to stay from alllll the options. Today, we’re talking about Coronado Springs Resort at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Let’s explore this beautiful resort and see why it might just be the perfect fit for your Disney adventure!

What Type of Property Is Coronado Springs?

Coronado Springs Resort is a moderate-level Disney hotel resort, which means you can expect a balance of comfort and affordability.  But keep in mind...the Disney premium is REAL and you can expect to pay more simply because it is Disney property. Holiday Inn off-property will be cheaper but you lose the magic.

It is themed around a blend of Spanish, Mexican, and Southwest American influences, providing a unique aesthetic that feels both exotic and welcoming. The resort features stunning landscapes, and a couple different buildings spread out around beautiful lakes, and vibrant architecture that will make you feel like you’ve stepped into another world.

The resort is divided into several distinct areas, with rooms located in different "villages," each named after Spanish cities. Casitos, Ranchos, Cabanas, and Gran Destino Tower. Whether you’re looking for a standard room or a more spacious suite, Coronado Springs has you covered. The rooms are relatively modern, well-kept, and have views of either the picturesque Lago Dorado, the pool, courtyard, or parking lots. A water view does add a little to the price. As will a kingsize bed option. There is ample parking throughout the resort but the lots immediately out front of the Gran Destino Tower did seem really full.

We stayed in the Casitas - Building 4 with a beautiful view of the Lago and Gran Destino tower. Since the resort is very spread out it was really nice that we were so close to Bus Stop 2. Easily a walk that was less than 3 minutes and plenty of parking for our rental car.

What Are the Prices Like?

One of the best things about Coronado Springs is its affordability. As of my last stay in December 2024, room rates typically range from $200 to $350 per night, depending on the season and room type of course. Keep an eye out for special promotions or packages that Disney frequently offers, especially during off-peak times. This can help you snag a great deal!

Also, don’t forget about the added value of staying on Disney property. Guests can take advantage of early park entry, free transportation to and from the parks, and the convenience of being within the Disney bubble.

Dining Options on Property

Coronado Springs has several dining venues, including the quick-service restaurant, El Mercado de Coronado, and the upscale Toledo – Tapas, Steak & Seafood, located atop the Gran Destino Tower. It is really nice to have some on-site options if you do not want to get food in the parks or at Disney Springs.

The first food option we saw was the Barcelona Bar on the first floor right under the main entryway in the Tower. It has the colored glass and Gaudi architecture just like the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain!

You can order coffee, alcohol, or light bites from Barcelona Bar and there is a little lounge area to sit and enjoy. I can see this place being packed during the high summer season.

We had dinner at Toledo the first night we arrived. Our trip was sort of last minute and there was a reservation available. We ordered the patatas bravas, charred octopus, blistered shishito peppers, and I orddered the marinated grilled lamb loin.

The decor was again on point for the Barcelona style and colored glass and architectur. The service was really well done, attentive, and they even got us out in time that we could go see the Cirque du Soleil show at Disney Springs at the last minute.

There is also Dahlia Lounge, which allows for some views of fireworks!

Amenities & Decor

For families staying at the resort there is a main pool and Dig Site for the little ones. It has a large pool, a water slide, and a sandy area for kids to play while parents recharge. It was not crowded in December but I have a feeling it is very popular in the summer when families are taking a break from the parks.

Coronado Springs has a conference center too, so that may account for some of its quietness.

Since we visited in mid-December, all Disney properties were decorated for the holidays and looked even more special. While I had been to Disney twice before, I had never seen it all dressed up for Christmas.

Getting Around: Park Transportation

Transportation is a crucial part of any Disney trip, and Coronado Springs does an excellent job in this area if you ask me. The resort is serviced by complimentary Disney buses that take you to all four theme parks, Disney Springs, and other Disney resorts. Some people complain that the resort is so big it needs 4 bus stops and it can be hard to catch a bus but we had absolutely no issues whatsoever.

Bus Stops: There are four bus stops located throughout the resort, making it easy to hop on and off for your park adventures. The main bus stop is conveniently located near the lobby at Gran Destino Tower, with additional stops in each village. This means you don't have to trek far after a long day at the parks to get back to your room! Our walk from our hotel door to Bus Stop 2 was less than 3 minutes.

Travel Time: Depending on the time of day and the destination you are going to, travel time to the parks can vary. I would say generally expect around 15-30 minutes to reach your destination. Don’t stress if you miss a bus because they run frequently! The resort is in the Animal Kingdom area so it is closer to Animal Kingdom and Epcot than it is to Magic Kingdom. But it really isn not far from anything so don't be concerned. The buses start running about 45 minutes prior to park opening and continue running consistently until about an hour after park closing.

Ride Shares: If you’re in a pinch or prefer a quicker option, ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft are also available, and they can drop you off right at the front gate of the parks. There is also a Disney-specific Minnie Shuttle service that can be arranged for a fee. They are cute little red vans with white polka dots that you'll see on the roads.

What about Universal Studios?

Many people will add in a day or two at Universal Studios while they are visiting Disney. We did too during our last trip! Unfortunately, there are no free transport options to get to Universal Studios from any of the Disney Resorts so you will have to either have a rental car or arrange for a Lyft/uber/taxi. We had a rental car and found the drive to be very quick and easy.

Final Thoughts

Overall, we found Coronado Springs Resort to offer a delightful experience that was unique, affordable (more affordable than other options I say), and a very convenient stay in Disney World. With its charming ambiance, excellent transportation options, and variety of dining experiences, it could be the perfect base for your next Disney adventure. Happy planning! ✨🏰
