The Perfect Holiday Sugar Cookies

I remember so vividly setting out cookies and milk for Santa Claus when I was a youngster. Today I'm sharing the perfect Christmas sugar cookie. Is there anything better than sugar cookies with a festive touch?

And one of the best things? Outside of the colored M&Ms you probably already have all of the ingredients in your panty.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar (packed)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp corn starch
  • egg
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup M&Ms (3/4 cup and 1/4 cup)

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 325F. I use baking sheets that do not stick but if you are worried go ahead and prep a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, mix together the 1/2 cup softened butter, 3/4 cups granulated sugar, and 1/4 cup brown sugar until evenly combined.

3.  Add your one egg into the bowl until mixed and soft and fluffy.

4.  In a separate bowl, combine the 2 cups all purpose flour, 1 teaspoon corn starch, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Mix until combined. You may have to use your hands or a spatula to help the dough come together.

5.  Incorporate 3/4 cup of the M&Ms into the dough with a spatula. Keep 1/4 cup of the M&Ms for later use.

6. Measuring out about 2 tbsp each, add the cookies to your prepared baking sheet.

7. Press down each dough ball a little to flatten it. Then add the remaining 1/4 cup of M&Ms to the tops of the cookies.

8. Bake at 325 degrees for between 15-18 minutes.

9. Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes on the baking sheet. Then move the cookies to a cooling rack.

I hope you enjoy these cookies. The are the perfect treat and you can even have your kids help you put the M&Ms on the tops.

You can also make these for other holidays:
  • Use pink and red M&Ms for Valentine's Day
  • Use green M&Ms for St. Patrick's Day
  • Use red, white, and blue M&Ms for Independence Day
Enjoy!
