WALK FOR A CURE: ALZHEIMER'S WALK

This past weekend a friend of mine and I participated in Walk For A Cure, a 5k fundraiser for Alzheimer's Disease in Philadelphia. There were a ton of people supporting the cause and the walk went by so quickly. There were teams in matching shirts and quite a few people carrying flowers.

Hurricane Sandy

I'm ready for Hurricane Sandy to come through. I live pretty close to the east coast (close enough they're evacuating the city to the South of me) so they've been warning us of the danger Hurricane Sandy poses. Law school already closed for tomorrow AND Tuesday via text alert so they must be thinking it's pretty serious. I will take the time off to catch up on some reading, case briefs, and maybe do some yoga. I hope everyone stays safe and the hurricane blows through here with minimal damage. I stopped at the store after my property law class and stocked up on water, non-perishables, batteries, matches, and candles, just in case. For right now I think I'll enjoy my tea....and do some yoga. I want to get back to my gymnastics days so bad!!!

DIY Hummus

You know how everyone has little obsessions? I am no different, I am obsessed with a few things too! On the list is my car, scarves, nail polish, learning to cook, running, avocados and HUMMUS. Seriously. So while I sat at my computer in my Civil Procedure class I decided...why not make some homemade hummus when I got back to my apartment? I always buy it and then I think to myself you can do that, there's really nothing to it. I finally decided to go for it when I saw chick peas were on sale last week. I bought three cans and used half of one to make this yummy salad for dinner last week.

Today I broke out the second can and decided to whip up some hummus. I used this recipe I found online (could it get any easier?? I don't think so!). It was so simple, I only used chickpeas, olive oil, some salt, and some of the liquid from the chickpeas to make it but obviously the recipe calls for things like tahini, lemon juice, etc (I didn't have that in my cupboard...maybe at some point I'll make legitimate hummus with all the spices and such--perhaps roasted red pepper hummus. Yum!!). Talk about simple ingredients and no time at all spent preparing!

Dinner Tonight - Salad

My delicious dinner for tonight. Lettuce, cucumber slices, tomato, chick peas (I'm obsessed), Tuscan Italian House dressing (from Giant) and homemade croutons! Yes, that's right, I actually made my own croutons!

Got my Midterm Grade!

SERIOUSLY SO PLEASED WITH MY PERFORMANCE ON THE TORTS MIDTERM! I can't even believe it. The class is 43 or so students and I got the fourth highest grade (law school is graded on a forced curve--best test gets the A+ (there's only one A+ given out), worst test gets F, and the rest fill out the middle grades. The grades are given based on how the test performance compares to everyone else. Intentional torts are officially my absolute favorite thing in the world! Wahooo! I think I'll celebrate with some yoga!

Classes are nuts. It's nice to have this downtime.

Renn Faire

Fare thee well all! Before you think I've lost my mind and went head over heels down a rabbit hole into the middle of the 16th century let me explain. My dad's birthday was this past Monday and so I thought as a neat gift idea (he prefers doing things instead of just presents) for me to take him to the Renaissance Faire. My boyfriend and I have gone with friends for the last two years but I don't think my dad's ever been at all. While we were there we entered an archery tournament just for fun....we didn't know that we would taking home 3 of the 5 prizes. My Dad got 4th, my boyfriend got 2nd, and my brother (for not knowing what the heck to do) got the "spirit" award. Ha, it makes me laugh every time. Now they all got some type of mini-knife (leave it to the Renn Faire right?). Here are some action shots.
My brother..trying really hard to figure out what the heck to do. And my friend Sarah who actually took an archery class for fun in college.
My Dad, fourth place winner, really looking like he knows what he's doing. He told me later it was just luck.
My boyfriend and I getting ready to kick some butt. Well, he kicked some butt. I didn't even hit the target. Ohhhhh yeahh!
My brother got the "Spirit Award" haha
And then we all got turkey legs so...yumm!

WOD

It feels so good to be getting back into my workouts. Law school and working this summer really killed my plans for working out...there just wasn't any time! I couldn't fit it all in and I got super lazy. Anyway, on Tuesday I went for a run to explore the neighborhood. 2 miles later my legs were like jelly.

Then today I decided to go for a bodyrock workout. You guys know how much I love bodyrock.tv!

H&M Haul

My sister and I went shopping the other day and visited one of my new favorite stores: H&M! Seriously, I carried so many clothes into the fitting room....and only put back about 5 items. Here's what I ended up taking home with me:

First up, as you guys know I'm in law school. I thought some blazers would be in order! I went with the hot pink because it was adorable and navy blue :)

I also saw these adorable shoes and I wanted them so badly!
And this black lace shirt. I thought it would be perfect for date night :)

In the fitting room with all my loads of clothes.

I chose the polka dot one of my boyfriend's friend's wedding. It was in August so I wanted something summery but also something I could wear with a blazer if I had an event in the winter. I thought it was a good choice.

There you have it! My H&M shopping haul!

Intro to Law: Check!

I did well on my Intro to Law week-long course that we took during orientation week for law school. Yesss! My school sort of did an introduction to law school classes for all of the new students. I was really nervous because I know every second of law school counts and I didn't want to make a bad first impression.

A Guest for Girls Night In

How cute is this furry friend?? So the deal is this...my neighbor downstairs owns the most adorable husky and I looooove huskies. Conveniently, my neighbor also goes to law school with me and is in two of my classes so we were able to become fast friends. His dog howls and whines sometimes when my neighbor leaves and it's the saddest, most heart-breaking sound I've ever heard in my life. One day he gave me a key to his apartment so that when the puppy starts to howl I can go get him if I'm home and he can spend time up here with me (which more importantly stops his whining from disrupting the other 4 people in this building). The dog is seriously so cute and it's hard not to want to go get him literally every time he starts to cry.

This past Friday a girlfriend of mine from college came over for a Girl's Night In with dinner, drinks, and a movie. Not too long after she got here did we start to hear Yukon crying and howling. She had only seen him once before in passing outside and, like me, loves dogs so she asked if we could go spring him loose. Of course we went and got him and he got to spend some of our Girl's Night with us.

OOTD: FIRST DAY OF LAW SCHOOL!

Oh gosh, the first day of law school is already here! This week is just orientation and an Intro to Law series of classes and then my REAL first day with my REAL classes starts next Monday. Either way, as Elle Woods says, "This is my first day as a serious law student." :) Haha, ok, maybe I don't look so serious. I hope everyone is nice and I really like it! This is my OOTD: Law school edition and I think it's super cute--if I do say so myself!

The outfit is kind of simple and would work for so much more than first day of school. I'm wearing:
White fitted shirt - Target (size small)
Black 3-quarter sleeve sweater - Target (size small)
Denim jean skirt - American Eagle (size 4)
Zebra flip flops - Kohls (size 7)
legally blonde college GIF
"I totally look the part." - Legally Blonde

Floor Plan for My First Apartment!

Check it out check it out check it out!! It's my very own apartment!! I know, it's awesome. You don't have to tell me twice. AND it has an outdoor space. I can cook and eat dinner out on the balcony, read a book, tan, whateeever I want AND it's all miiiiine.

This was from move-in day. It has the best central/main space where I'm going to put my couch, TV, desk, table. Around that wall there is the kitchen, which isn't huge but will be perfect for me. The wall of closets will be nice for storing stuff (the utility closet is on the other side). But check out that balcony! I can't wait to get a patio set so I can chill out there.
The bedroom and bathroom are off to the right bottom. The front door comes in from left bottom of the photo.

Can you tell I'm so excited?!

WOD + Dinner

Seriously in the best.mood.ever. I feel fantastic! My workout of the day:

Run 3 miles (33 min) + Cycle 5 mile (13 min) + Bodyrock

I think I came late to the bodyrock February 30 Day Challenge party...especially since it's March. I wanted to do it though so I decided to give it a go. I started off with Day 1 Week 1: Fit Test #1 which had us do 8 exercises in intervals of 50 seconds work and 10 seconds rest. My results were:

Squat Jumps: 18
Push Ups: 21 (10 on toes, 11 on knees)
Burpees: 10
High Knees: 69
Switch Lunges: 9
Tuck Jumps: 14
Tricep dips: 18
Straight abs: 25

So I haven't been THAT much of a lazy bum since moving back after college. I have been using my Garmin to take walks with my sister but today was my first actual run in what felt like FOREVER. Unfortunately, it was colder than I thought it was so my throat started to hurt really bad every time I would breathe in (has anyone else ever had this happen to them?) so I had to stop mid-run. Since my job is basically 8 hours of me being on the phone I couldn't afford to lose my voice...that's why I stopped.

Dinner for tonight was DELICIOUS!

Lettuce, hummus, avocado, carrots, mushrooms, and some chicken. Yumm!
We can only go up from here! Looking forward to doing some more tomorrow!

After All Is Said and Done...
